Debates en torno a la Ganadería y el cambio climático

En el sector agropecuario existen discusiones académicas y extraacadémicas respecto a su responsabilidad sobre el cambio climático y su rol para mitigarlo. En particular, dos temas resultan claves para la ganadería en un contexto de cambio climático: (i) el valor del potencial de calentamiento global del metano en la producción ganadera y (ii) la contribución de esta actividad al balance de carbono del suelo. En la Argentina estas discusiones son relevantes dada la importancia relativa de la ganadería en la economía nacional. No obstante, estos debates se encuentran poco sistematizados y escasamente disponibles en formato de divulgación científica en español. Más aún, pocas publicaciones abordaron las discusiones con impacto en la producción ganadera argentina. Por ello, los objetivos de este trabajo fueron: (i) recopilar discusiones traídas por publicaciones científicas y literatura gris sobre el signo y magnitud del balance de carbono de los suelos en la Argentina y sobre el potencial de calentamiento global del metano de la ganadería y (ii) aplicar estas discusiones al contexto argentino. Del análisis se sugiere que en la Argentina se debería implementar una política pública orientada a monitorear y reportar el balance de carbono en suelos de todo el territorio nacional, y contribuir en el avance del conocimiento sobre el potencial de calentamiento global del metano producido por la ganadería. Este trabajo representa un aporte para que más partes interesadas puedan acceder a estos debates.Downloads
