Submissions

Author Guidelines

Papers can be submitted in Spanish, English or Portuguese, within one of the following categories:

a) Research articles: they are reports resulting from original research, scientifically appropriate, that provide new knowledge to the discipline field. They will be organized according to the format detailed below. They must have 5,000 words or 30 pages at maximum. In case of exceeding the page limit, authors must justify the reasons and the Editorial Committee and the external Associate Editors will decide on  its acceptance.

b) Literature and/or update reviews: they are reviews of specific aspects of current or emerging topics, relevant to the area of knowledge. They must have up to 2,000 words or 20 pages at maximum. They are not aimed to provide an annotated bibliography but rather to present topics in which there is a diversity of opinions. Authors will give an objective perspective and provide scientific details as well as critical views from various sources. Authors should be trained researchers, with extensive experience and background in the subject to be discussed in the review.

c) Notes or brief communications: they are reports resulting from scientific research, with the aim of communicating results of a more restricted scope than research articles. They may have up to 2000 words or 20 pages in length, and will be organized as research work , as described later.

d) Technical Notes: they are concise description of an original and innovative technique, development, procedure or device, based on research, that aims to provide a solution to a problem relevant to professional practice. Notes should emphasize the comparative advantages that the new technique brings to the professional field. Manuscripts should not exceed 2000 words or 20 pages and will be organized in the following sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods (Methodology), Results and Conclusion. They should not include more than ten references, or more than four tables and / or figures.

e) Opinion articles: they are based on current issues, book reviews or academic thesis. They will be published only by decision of the Editorial Committee. Articles should have a maximum of two pages and may not include tables or figures.

Contributions must be sent as a Word text file or similar, double-spaced, using Times New Roman font, normal style, size 10. The document must be adjusted to A4 paper size, with all margins of 2.5 cm and all pages and lines must be numbered sequentially.

Articles resulting from research on live animals must submit to, and reference in the manuscript, approval of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee or of similar committees where experiments have been carried out.

Research articles must have the following sections:

Title (in the source language). It should be as concise as possible and correspond to the subject of the article

Author names. Every author name will start in uppercase and the rest in lowercase, the initials will be capitalized, separated from the surname by a comma and a space, and without space or comma between them. Different author names should be separated by semicolons. The name of the institution the author/s belongs to, titles and contact data must be included.

Abstract (in the source language). Up to 250 words. Objectives, materials and methods, results and conclusions should be included in it.

Keywords. Authors must list up to 5 words that will be used to index the article. It is convenient that these words are not taken from the title. Each word will be separated by a comma. Example: Keywords: bees, meliponini, nesting trees, Monte Chaqueño, Formosa.

Key Words (or keywords, as appropriate)

Introduction. It should be as short as possible. It will present the most relevant information on the subject in the literature, the objectives of the research and should indicate its importance and impact.

Methodology. The experimental designs, materials and methodologies must be described. If known techniques are used, they should only be mentioned. However, in the case of new or little-known procedures, they must be described in detail. Likewise, the statistical methods used for data analysis must be mentioned.

Results and Discussion. They should be clear and concise. Pictures, graphics or photographs may be used.

Conclusions (only if considered necessary). Special attention should be paid to avoid redundancy with the Results and Discussion section.

Authorship. Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that the manuscript has been read and approved by all authors and that all authors agree to the submission of the manuscript to the Journal. All named authors must have made an active contribution to the conception and design and/or analysis and interpretation of the data and/or the drafting of the paper and all must have critically reviewed its content and have approved the final version submitted for publication. It is a requirement that all authors have been accredited as appropriate upon submission of the manuscript. Contributors who do not qualify as authors should be mentioned under Acknowledgements.

Acknowledgments. Technical or financial support, etc. can be acknowledged. Conflicts of interest must be declared.

References. All references cited in the text must appear in the reference list, alphabetically ordered by the first author´s name. When an author is cited more than once, his or her name should be repeated as many times as necessary, ordering his/her items in chronological order.

Manuscript format should follow the guidelines established by the Publication Manual of the American. Psychological Association (APA), ^7th edition (2019).  Here are some examples:

• Periodical publications printed format: Surname, A. A., Surname, B. B, and Surname, C. C. (Date). Article title. Name of the journal, volume (number), pp-pp.

• Periodical publications with DOI: Surname, A. A., Surname, B. B. and Surname, C. C. (Date). Article title. Name of the journal, volume (number), pp-pp. doi: xx

Figures (Pictures and Photographs). Figures should be embedded directly into the manuscript and must also be sent separatedly in an attached file, individually or in groups, in their respective formats.

Figures must comply with the journal layout, so their dimensions must be 7 cm wide (equivalent to a single column width) or - only if necessary - 14.5 cm (two-column width). The height must not exceed 19.5 cm. All figures should be prepared in black and white, or in grayscale (if necessary). TIFF, BMP, JPG, or similar formats will be accepted. Figures should be numbered consecutively, with Arabic numbers. Axis labels and legends must be in Times New Roman and have a uniform, legible font size in all figures, especially when it is necessary to adjust them to the column width..

Tables must have a heading and comply with the same requirements as figures. Figures and tables must be numbered independently.

If included, photographs must have higher resolution and the same size as figures.

Prior to publication, a galley proof will be sent to the first author, who must return it within seven days of receipt. Otherwise, the Editorial Committee will be responsible for the final correction. Galley proofs are used only for typographical error corrections.

Manuscripts that have been presented at congresses, symposia and conferences, or that have been published as summaries or short communications will be accepted for publication. This must be indicated at the bottom of the manuscript first page, and  publication will be considered by the Editorial Committee and the external Associate Editors.
