Manejo de la estructura del cultivo de maíz en ambientes marginales de la Argentina

La producción maíz en la Argentina se triplicó en la última década debido a la expansión del área cosechada. En regiones consideradas marginales para la producción de maíz, el manejo de la estructura del cultivo, basado en fechas de siembra tardías y bajas densidades poblacionales, ha permitido obtener rendimientos estables y rentables. En este trabajo caracterizamos las zonas marginales para la producción del cultivo de maíz en Argentina, interpretamos las bases funcionales del manejo adoptado en estas zonas y proponemos prácticas de manejo relacionadas con la estructura y nutrición del cultivo, que permiten reducir las brechas de rendimiento originadas por las limitantes ambientales. Para ello, se realizó una revisión de las publicaciones relacionadas con la temática y generadas por el grupo maíz de la Cátedra de Cerealicultura de FA-UBA y el Grupo de Estudio y Trabajo “Red de Ultra Baja Densidad de Maíz” (https://www.agro.uba.ar/GET/reduba-demaiz). Nuestros estudios permiten interpretar desde un marco eco-fisiológico y funcional, el impacto de la fecha de siembra, la densidad y la utilización de híbridos con plasticidad vegetativo-reproductiva sobre la economía del agua del cultivo, y la relación entre la producción de espigas múltiples con el rendimiento en bajas densidades. Estos mecanismos permitirían subir los pisos de rendimiento.Downloads
